High-Performance Multimedia Single Board Computer
with NXP i.MX 8M Plus CPU from F&S Elektronik Systeme GmbH

The armStone™MX8MP from F&S Elektronik Systeme GmbH is a high-performance single board computer (SBC) in PicoITX format, powered by the NXP i.MX 8M Plus CPU. This multimedia CPU is ideal for demanding graphical applications in building automation, industrial, and medical technology.

The NXP i.MX 8M Plus processor combines four ARM® Cortex®-A53 cores (64-bit, 1.8 GHz) for computationally intensive tasks with an ARM® Cortex®-M7 core optimized for real-time applications. NXP continues its proven heterogeneous approach, making this architecture ideal for real-time processing. The Cortex®-A53 cores run Linux, while the Cortex®-M7 core operates under FreeRTOS.

For graphics and video applications, the i.MX 8M Plus offers 3D hardware acceleration and supports OpenGL ES2.1/3.0/3.1 along with video playback in h.265. A standout feature is the integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which delivers 2.3 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second), designed for machine learning applications.

The armStone™MX8MP comes with up to 8 GB LPDDR4 RAM and 64 GB eMMC storage. It includes a wide array of interfaces, such as USB 3.0, Audio In/Out with microphone support, 2x Gigabit Ethernet, mPCIe (with SIM slot), MIPI CSI, I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, and SDIO (uSD slot). For display connectivity, it offers 2x LVDS (up to Full HD), MIPI-DSI, and DVI. A resistive or PCAP touch panel can be connected via I2C.

Additionally, an optional onboard WLAN/BT module (pre-certified) with antenna connector is available. Many signals are accessible via standard connectors or the 66-pin feature bus, making integration straightforward.

The board is powered via 5V, with an optional 12/24V adapter available as an accessory. It is highly power-efficient, consuming only a few watts. With an extended operating temperature range of -20°C to +70°C, the armStone™MX8MP is suitable for outdoor use. Heat spreaders and heatsinks are also available as accessories for enhanced thermal management.

Supported operating systems include Linux (Yocto) and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise. Essential software, including the bootloader, device tree, interface drivers, and development tools, has been ported by the experienced software team at F&S Elektronik Systeme. Security functions and OTA (Over-The-Air) updates are also available through Linux customization by F&S.

F&S Elektronik Systeme provides comprehensive project support, offering starter kits, workshops, detailed documentation for hardware and software development, and free support from their experienced engineers. The F&S project guarantee ensures guidance from the start to the successful completion of the project.

The armStone™MX8MP will be available until at least 2035 and can be purchased directly from F&S Elektronik Systeme or through global distribution partners.
