We provide a tested software environment for the OSM modules with NXPs i.MX8ULP.Part of this environment is the Linux Yocto release and the BSP for the Cortex-M33.Announcements about new versions of this package are made in the support forum.
Yocto Release Y2024.09
For the CPU NXP i.MX8 ULP F&S offers a Yocto based environment. We offer the Linux BSP fsimx8ulp-Y2024.09-pre, which is based on Yocto.
Our standard configuration, which is intended to give a first impression of the functionality of the board, includes the following features: Busybox, gdb, alsa-utils, gstreamer, fbv, matchbox, feh, openssl, openssh, ncurses, can-utils, iproute2, ftpd, httpd, telnet, tftp, and many more.
The BSP is based on the following source code packages:
- U-Boot: 2024.04
- Linux-Kernel: 6.6.48
- Yocto: 5.0.3 Scarthgap
Also included is our cross toolchain, some sample applications, and all binaries in the default configuration.
F&S offer a virtual machine (based on VirtualBox) with an installed Linux based on the distribution Fedora 36 for free download. All packages necessary to compile our software are already installed. Also, all services (NFS, TFTP) for working with our boards are installed. Our BSP is unpacked and precompiled in the correct directories. With this virtual machine it doesn't matter if you use Windows or Linux as host. Simply download the VHD, import it into VirtualBox and development can begin immediately.

The advantages of an OSM module are machine assembly, and a lot of power and functions in a small space. It eliminates both the cost and the risk of using connectors. Our OSM module in size S is perfectly matched to the i.MX 8ULP CPU from NXP. Heterogeneous multicore processor conceptThe i.MX 8ULP is a heterogeneous multicore application processor for embedded modules. It is ideal for applications that require high-performance graphics processing and multimedia functions, as well as for Industry 4.0 applications. The processor consists of a single or dual ARM® Cortex®-A35 cores running at up to 1 GHz and a Cortex®-M33 core running at 216 MHz for real-time processing. The processor also features a HIFI 4 DSP. The i.MX 8ULP offers various audio and voice functions via I2S. |
In addition to the OSM module, F&S Elektronik also offers the development and manufacture of a suitable baseboard and then supplies the complete unit soldered, tested, and, if desired, with the customer's software installed, so that all that remains is to unpack, install and switch on. The operating system adapted for the OSM modules is Linux. Linux Yocto supports all interfaces so that simple software development can be guaranteed without great hardware knowledge. Development BoardFor an easy start into development, we offer an out-of-the-box OSM starter kit with OSM modules, baseboard, 3.5" MIPI display, cables, and access to documentation and software. The software includes the board support package and toolchain for Bare Metal or FreeRTOS. The offer is rounded off by a wide range of software services, workshops, and free support via the forum, e-mail, and telephone. |
