Yocto Release Y2024.07

For the CPU NXP i.MX8M Plus F&S offers a Yocto based environment. We offer the Linux BSP fsimx8mp-Y2024.07, which is based on Yocto.

Our standard configuration, which is intended to give a first impression of the functionality of the board, includes the following features: Busybox, gdb, alsa-utils, gstreamer, fbv, matchbox, feh, openssl, openssh, ncurses, can-utils, iproute2, ftpd, httpd, telnet, tftp, and many more.

The BSP contains the source code packages of U-Boot (2021.04), Linux kernel (based on 5.15.160) and Yocto (4.0.20 Kirkstone) adapted by F&S. Also included is our cross toolchain, some sample applications, and all binaries in the default configuration. Last but not least, detailed documents on the hardware are included, as well as the First Steps documentation for an easy start.

F&S offer a virtual machine (based on VirtualBox) with an installed Linux based on the distribution Fedora 36 for free download. All packages necessary to compile our software are already installed. Also, all services (NFS, TFTP) for working with our boards are installed. Our BSP is unpacked and precompiled in the correct directories. With this virtual machine it doesn't matter if you use Windows or Linux as host. Simply download the VHD, import it into VirtualBox and development can begin immediately.

F&S Development Machine - Fedora 36


For a quick start into development with Linux we provide a VirtualBox-based virtual hard disk VHD for download. The VHD uses Fedora 36as Linux distribution.

With this machine you can start your development in less than an hour.

The machine is free of charge for our customers.

VirtualBox is a powerful product for corporate customers and at the same time the only professional solution which is freely available as Open Source Software under the terms of the GNU General Public License Version 2.
The F&S Development Machine contains pre-installed board support packages for fsimx8mm, fsimx8mn and fsimx8mp (64 bit CPU).
The appropriate F&S toolchain is installed in the VHD, the source code is extracted and ready to use.
Necessary system packages and tools are also already installed.
Furthermore, it contains a configured environment for QT development with cross-compile/debug kit, deployment strategy and demo application.

This powerful module in the PicoITX form factor is particularly suitable for complex multimedia tasks and is ideal for applications with demanding graphics in building automation, for all types of HMI in industry and medical technology, as well as POS and POI terminals.

Numerous Interfaces

The armStone™MX8MP is equipped with up to 8GByte LPDDR4 RAM and up to 32GB eMMC.

 

Other interfaces of the armStone™MX8MP are WLAN (802.11 ac/a/b/g/n (2.4/ 5GHz)), BT (5.0 LE), Gigabit Ethernet, SD card, 4x USB host, USB device, 2x CAN, 3x serial, 4x I²C, 2x SPI, audio, MIPI-CSI camera and PCIe with SIM card slot.

LVDS (24bit), DVI and MIPI-CSI are available for display control.

As with all armStone™ single board computers, many of the signals are on common connectors or on the 66-pin feature bus. The armStone™MX8MP is powered by 5V (a 12/24V adapter is offered as an accessory), and power consumption is only a few watts. With a temperature range of up to -20°C - +70°C and -25°C - +85°C in the I-Temp. version, the armStone™MX8MP can also be used outdoors.

Linux Yocto

An adapted Linux Yocto is available as an operating system. Bootloader, device tree, adapted interface drivers and all tools necessary for development are available.

Various security functions are available and are made available by the Linux adaptation of F&S Elektronik Systeme.

With the F&S project guarantee, F&S Elektronik Systeme accompanies the customer from the project start to the successful completion of the project.
For this purpose, a starter kit and workshop, documents for hardware and software development, and free support by the experienced engineers of F&S Elektronik Systeme GmbH are available.
