F&S Board Strategy

If there is a need for more processor power or more interfaces during the development phase or a later redesign, this can lead to a serious problem. But not with F&S boards. Pin- and software-compatible boards are available in every board family. Further boards are added annually and supplement the board family or replace discontinued boards (after 10 years at the earliest).

With this board strategy, the customer does not take any risk.

Depending on the customer's needs, one of the seven board families can be used; each board family meets different needs.

F&S Project Guarantee

F&S Elektronik Systeme offers its customers a project guarantee.
Together, all problems that arise during development are solved (hardware as well as software) and wishes are fulfilled. The aim is to complete the customer's project successfully and to continue to support the project throughout its entire duration, even after the start of series production.
Another important point of the project guarantee is the long-term availability of each module for at least 10 years.
This project guarantee paved the way for F&S Boards in many applications of well-known customers throughout Europe.

Solutions with Computer on Module (COM) need a base board; a Single Board Computer (SBC) in an established form factor offers an alternative. The armStone™ modules in PicoITX form factor are perfectly suited for developing small, but high-performance applications.

NetDCU

NetDCUA5 TOP WCE
 

The NetDCU standard has a size of 80x100mm, including easy and robust 2.54mm connectors and 5V single supply. Only a very simple base board is needed additionally. Even the driver components for RS232, buffer for display signals and the Ethernet transformer are already available. The product range goes from Cortex-A5 - 500MHz to Cortex-A9 - 1GHz. All NetDCUs are pin compatible and therefore easy to exchange / scale.

PicoCOM

PicoCOMA5 TOP

The PicoCOM form factor has a size of 40x50mm, is extremely compact and low-priced. It has a reliable 80pol SMD connector and 3.3V single supply. Only a simple base board is necessary additionally. The base board only needs driver components (RS232, RS485, CAN, Ethernet transformer) and bushes. The product range goes from ARM9-240MHz up to Cortex-A9 - 1GHz. All PicoCOM boards are pin compatible and therefore easy to exchange/ scale.

The PicoMOD standard has a size of 50x80mm (credit card sized), a reliable 140pol SMD connector, 3.3V single supply and only a (simple) base board is necessary additionally. On the base board only the driver components (RS232, RS458, CAN, Ethernet transformer) and the bushes are missing. The current product range goes from ARM9-400MHz up to Cortex-A9 - 1GHz. All PicoMOD boards are pin compatible and therefore easy to exchange/ scale.

Difference to Qseven with ATOM:

The efus™ standard has a size of 47 x 62mm only. It is equipped with finger-type contacts for a common 230 on MXM2 edge connector (inexpensive and certified for automotive).

The efus™ circuit board can be extended with wireless modules laterally(WLAN, Z-Wave, ZigBee, EnOcean) without having to change the layout of the CPU area.

Software, Add-Ons and Support

All boards are supported by the operating systems Windows Embedded Compact 7/2013, Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3 and Linux. Bootloader, kernel, interface drivers, SDK (partly BSP) are available for every module. Windows is developed with Visual Studio (C++, C#, VB.NET) and Expression Blend (XAML for Embedded). As an alternative, we also offer Linux with current kernel, uboot, interface drivers and Buildroot Support (QT, Gstreamer, JAVA VM…). 
For a quick start of development, starterkits with standard connectors and helpful accessories (cables, displays, adapters,...) are offered.
A four-hour workshop and support via phone, e-mail and the F&S Forum complement the excellent F&S Support offer.
