Buildroot and Yocto
The Linux BSP "fsimx6ul-B2023.12" is based on Buildroot, a software for creating root file systems. About 1400 different software packages can be added to the root file system using menu control. The range of functions ranges from simple libraries and utilities to a complete Java environment to complete graphical environments such as Qt or Wayland/Weston, including applications such as an HTML5-capable web browser. In this way, it is very easy to put together a customized Linux system.
As an alternative to Buildroot, there is also a Yocto-based environment. We offer the Linux BSP fsimx6ul-Y2024.03, which is based on Yocto.
Our standard configuration, which should give a first impression of the functional scope of the module, contains the following features: Busybox, gdb, alsa-utils, gstreamer, wayland-weston, feh, openssl, openssh, ncurses, can-utils, iproute2, ftpd, httpd, telnet, tftp, and much more.
Both BSPs include the source code packages from U-Boot (2021.04), Linux kernel (based on 5.15.131/5.15.148) and Buildroot (2023.02.06) or Yocto (4.0) adapted by F&S. In addition, our cross toolchain is included, some sample applications and all binaries in the standard configuration. And last but not least, detailed documents on the hardware are included as well as the first steps documentation for easy entry.
F&S also offers a virtual machine (based on VirtualBox) with an installed Linux based on the Fedora 36 distribution for free download. All packages necessary to translate our software are already installed. All services (NFS, TFTP) for working with our boards are also installed. Our BSP is unpacked and precompiled in the right directories. With this virtual machine it doesn't matter whether you use Windows or Linux as the host. Simply download the VHD, import it into VirtualBox and development can begin immediately.

Computer on Module | with NXP i.MX 6ULL | |
---|---|---|
The PicoCore™ Computer On Module product family has a new member - the PicoCoreMX6UL100, based on the NXP i.MX 6ULL ARM® CPU. The small size (35 x 40mm) makes the module an ideal partner for compact devices. The module is characterized by low cost and low power dissipation and is ideally suited for all applications with or without display (RGB or LVDS). Thus, this PicoCoreMX6UL100 complements the pin-compatible product family with i.MX8M Mini/ Nano and Plus at the bottom. An NXP CPU with ARM® Cortex®-A7 core with 900MHz is used. This makes the PicoCore™MX6UL100 a very low-cost COM module. The power dissipation of about 1W is excellent for portable, battery-powered devices. This makes it excellent for projects where cost, size, and power consumption need to be kept low. ➜ more information about the NXP i.MX 6ULL applications processor Long-term Availability until 2030Another feature is the long availability until at least 2030. Equipment and InterfacesThe PicoCore™MX6UL100 has sufficient memory (RAM, SLC NAND Flash, eMMC Flash). The module offers many interfaces on the 2x 100-pin connectors. |
Available interfaces are 2x Ethernet or RGMII, audio codec or I2S, USB host and device, UARTs, SPIs, I2Cs GPIOs, CAN and RGB or LVDS for display control. The touch panel is connected via I2C. As an option, this PicoCore is also offered with a pre-certified WLAN (2.4/ 5GHz) and BT (5.0 LE) module with an antenna socket. Due to the multiple assignments of signal lines of the CPU with different interfaces, it is possible to select the desired interfaces through registry entries. A list of the possible interfaces and also the pin assignment on the connector can be found in the hardware specification. Please note that not all available interfaces are available at the same time. Operating SystemThe operating system adapted for the PicoCore™MX6UL100 is Linux (Buildroot and Yocto are available) and supports all interfaces, thus ensuring simple software development without extensive hardware knowledge. |
