For i.MX8M Mini, F&S has adapted Yocto as well as Buildroot. In addition, F&S provide a BSP for FreeRTOS. This FreeRTOS BSP makes it easier to use features of Cortex-M4.

The Buildroot BSP is a software for creating root file systems. About 1400 different software packages can be added to the root file system using menu control. The range of functions ranges from simple libraries and utilities to a complete Java environment to complete graphical environments such as Qt, Wayland/Weston or X11, including applications such as an HTML5-capable web browser. In this way, it is very easy to put together a customized Linux system.

Yocto has established itself as the standard for Linux build environments in recent years. Our standard configuration, which is intended to give a first impression of the module's functionality, includes the following features: Busybox, gdb, alsa-utils, gstreamer, fbv, X11R7, matchbox, feh, openssl, openssh, ncurses, can-utils, iproute2, ftpd, httpd, telnet, tftp, and much more.

F&S also offers a virtual machine (based on VirtualBox) with an installed Linux based on the Fedora distribution for free download. All packages necessary to translate our software are already installed. All services (NFS, TFTP) for working with our boards are also installed. Our BSP is unpacked and precompiled in the right directories. With this virtual machine it doesn't matter whether you use Windows or Linux as the host. Simply download the VHD, import it into VirtualBox and development can begin immediately.

FreeRTOS

In addition to the 4 Cortex-A53 cores, the NXP i.MX8M Mini CPU also has a Cortex-M4 core. The Cortex-M4 core is particularly suitable for real-time tasks or for power saving.
F&S offers a completely tested BSP for the use of the Cortex-M4 for FreeRTOS or Bare Metal application.

Die Größe von nur 35 x 40mm erlaubt den Einsatz in kompakten Gehäusen. Das Modul zeichnet sich durch sehr gute Performance aus und ist bestens für sichere Cloudverbindungen geeignet.

Heterogenes Multikern Prozessorkonzept

Der i.MX 8M Mini ist NXPs erster heterogener embedded Multikern Applikationsprozessor. Er vereint High-Performance Computing, Energieeffizienz, verbesserte Systemsicherheit, und embedded Security, was benötigt wird um das Wachstum von schnellwachsendem Edge Node Computing, dem Streamen von Multimedia und Anwendungen für maschinelles Lernen voranzutreiben.
Das Herzstück des Prozessors ist ein skalierbarer Kernkomplex mit bis zu vier ARM® Cortex®-A53 Kernen mit bis zu 2GHz, plus einem Cortex®-M4 für Echtzeitverarbeitung mit 400+ MHz.
Der i.MX 8M Mini verfügt über eine 1080p Hardware Videobeschleunigung zur Umsetzung von Zwei-Weg Videoapplikationen. 2D und 3D Grafik bieten eine umfangreiche visuelle HMI Erfahrung.

Ein weiteres Merkmal ist die lange Verfügbarkeit bis mindestens 2034.

 

Ausstattung und Schnittstellen

Die PicoCore™MX8MM verfügt über ausreichend Speicher (RAM, SLC NAND Flash, eMMC Flash).

Das Modul bietet viele Schnittstellen auf den 2x 100 poligen Steckverbindern.

Ein Teil der Schnittstellen sind per default festgelegt (Schnittstellen-FIX) und auch soweit möglich auf anderen PicoCore Modulen Verfügbar. Dazu gehören 2x Serielle (für Debug Zwecke), 2x Ethernet, 1x USB Host, 1x USB Device, 1x CAN, 1x I²C (für den Anschluss von externen Touchkontrollern) und analoge Audiosignale (Line In/ Out/ Mic/ HP).

Bedingt durch die Mehrfachbelegung von Signalleitungen der CPU mit unterschiedlichen Schnittstellen, besteht die Möglichkeit durch Registry Einträge die gewünschten Schnittstellen auszuwählen. Diesen Bereich nennen wir Schnittstellen-FLEX. Eine Liste mit den möglichen Schnittstellen und auch der Pinzuordnung am Steckverbinder finden Sie in der Hardwarespezifikation.

Bitte beachten Sie, nicht alle verfügbaren Schnittstellen sind gleichzeitig verfügbar.

Zur Displayansteuerung steht eine MIPI-DSI Schnittstelle mit bis zu vier Lanes oder eine 24bit LVDS Schnittstelle (bis FullHD) und bis zu vier Lanes zur Verfügung.

Betriebssystem

Das für die PicoCore™MX8MM angepasste Betriebssystem ist Linux. Es wird sowohl Buildroot als auch Yocto unterstützt. Die Betriebssysteme unterstützen alle Schnittstellen, dadurch kann eine einfache Softwareentwicklung ohne große Hardwarekenntnisse gewährleistet werden.
