FuSys Dev for VS Code

Development Platform for F&S Software Releases in VS Code

FuSys Dev is an extension for Visual Studio Code and VSCodium that significantly simplifies development with F&S Yocto releases. It displays available releases and allows developers to download, manage, and maintain them directly from within the development environment. In addition, FuSys Dev seamlessly integrates the development and build tools included in each release into the IDE. These tools support typical Embedded Linux development tasks, ranging from build configuration and image creation to OTA updates, Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) generation, and vulnerability tracking.

As a core component of future F&S Development Machines, FuSys Dev is preinstalled together with VSCodium. Developers gain immediate access to available releases and their associated tools without any additional installation or configuration steps.
he idea behind FuSys Dev is simple: all essential functions related to F&S Yocto releases should be available directly within the development environment, allowing developers to focus on building their products.

Integrated Tools

The functionality of FuSys Dev is provided by the tools included in each software release. These tools support common Embedded Linux development tasks, including:

  • Yocto-Build-Workflows
  • OTA management
  • SBOM generation
  • CVE and vulnerability tracking
  • Netzwork and device management tools

All tools are integrated directly into VS Code and can be used within the familiar development environment.

Easier Onboarding

Many tools automate recurring tasks and simplify complex workflows, making it easier to start new projects. At the same time, the underlying scripts and workflows remain fully visible. Developers can understand exactly which steps are performed and use the provided tools as a starting point for learning the underlying build and development processes.

The goal of FuSys Dev is not to hide existing workflows, but to simplify common tasks while promoting a deeper understanding of the technologies being used.

Availability and Roadmap

With fsimx8mm, the first release providing integrated tools for FuSys Dev is now available. All future Yocto releases will adopt this concept and deliver additional tools as part of the release package. FuSys Dev automatically detects these tools and integrates them into the development environment.

Future versions are planned to include an update mechanism for already imported releases, making the management and maintenance of development environments even easier.
