Buildroot and Yocto
The Linux BSP "fsimx6ul-B2023.12" is based on Buildroot, a software for creating root file systems. About 1400 different software packages can be added to the root file system using menu control. The range of functions ranges from simple libraries and utilities to a complete Java environment to complete graphical environments such as Qt or Wayland/Weston, including applications such as an HTML5-capable web browser. In this way, it is very easy to put together a customized Linux system.
As an alternative to Buildroot, there is also a Yocto-based environment. We offer the Linux BSP fsimx6ul-Y2024.03, which is based on Yocto.
Our standard configuration, which should give a first impression of the functional scope of the module, contains the following features: Busybox, gdb, alsa-utils, gstreamer, wayland-weston, feh, openssl, openssh, ncurses, can-utils, iproute2, ftpd, httpd, telnet, tftp, and much more.
Both BSPs include the source code packages from U-Boot (2021.04), Linux kernel (based on 5.15.131/5.15.148) and Buildroot (2023.02.06) or Yocto (4.0) adapted by F&S. In addition, our cross toolchain is included, some sample applications and all binaries in the standard configuration. And last but not least, detailed documents on the hardware are included as well as the first steps documentation for easy entry.
F&S also offers a virtual machine (based on VirtualBox) with an installed Linux based on the Fedora 36 distribution for free download. All packages necessary to translate our software are already installed. All services (NFS, TFTP) for working with our boards are also installed. Our BSP is unpacked and precompiled in the right directories. With this virtual machine it doesn't matter whether you use Windows or Linux as the host. Simply download the VHD, import it into VirtualBox and development can begin immediately.

Windows Embedded Compact 2013
The highly flexible and hard real-time operating system has kernel, interface drivers and bootloader. It benefits from all the features of a modern CPU, such as ARMv7 THUMB2 command structure or NEON co-processor.
Complete images and the BSP are available in our download area.
Development is done with the latest Microsoft tools like Visual Studio 2015 (C, C++, C# or VB.NET) and Expression Blend 5.
Interfaces like I²C, CAN or SPI can be used in the same way like a RS232 interface.
XAML for Windows Embedded helps to separate visualisation and program the easy way.
Our FailSafe Flash File System F3S is also available in Compact 2013.

PicoCOM™1.2 is another compact and inexpensive module in PicoCOM™ form factor. The PicoCOM™ form factor is perfectly suited for applications without display but many communication interfaces. PicoCOM™1.2 is based on a NXP Single Core applications processor of the very successful i.MX 6 series and includes a Cortex®-A7 core with 696MHz and security features. The integrated operating system (WEC 2013 or Linux) supports all interfaces, so the user can easily realize his software application without deeper hardware knowledge. |
The module offers the following interfaces: Ethernet, 6x Serial, USB 2.0 Host, USB 2.0 Device, I²C, SPI, CAN2.0, Audio (Line IN/OUT) and SD Card. An important point in development was to offer many standardized interfaces, all supported by the available OS. Therefore the user can realize his communication jobs in software without in-depth knowledge of hardware. PicoCOM1.2 can be equipped with up to 512Mbyte DRAM and up to 1GByte Flash. The system is supplied with 3.3V (~ 1 Watt). The module is plugged on the customer's baseboard via a robust 80-pole plug connector. |
