Buildroot and Yocto
The Linux BSP "fsimx6sx-B2024.01" is based on Buildroot, a software for creating root file systems. About 1400 different software packages can be added to the root file system using menu control. The range of functions ranges from simple libraries and utilities to a complete Java environment to complete graphical environments such as Qt or Wayland/Weston, including applications such as an HTML5-capable web browser. In this way, it is very easy to put together a customized Linux system.
As an alternative to Buildroot, there is also a Yocto-based environment. We offer the Linux BSP fsimx6sx-Y2020.03, which is based on Yocto.
Our standard configuration, which should give a first impression of the functional scope of the module, contains the following features: Busybox, gdb, alsa-utils, gstreamer, wayland-weston, feh, openssl, openssh, ncurses, can-utils, iproute2, ftpd, httpd, telnet, tftp, and much more
Both BSPs include the source code packages from U-Boot (2021.04), Linux kernel (based on 5.15.131) and Buildroot (2023.02.06) or Yocto (4.0) adapted by F&S. In addition, our cross toolchain is included, some sample applications and all binaries in the standard configuration. And last but not least, detailed documents on the hardware are included as well as the first steps documentation for easy entry.
F&S also offers a virtual machine (based on VirtualBox) with an installed Linux based on the Fedora 36 distribution for free download. All packages necessary to translate our software are already installed. All services (NFS, TFTP) for working with our boards are also installed. Our BSP is unpacked and precompiled in the right directories. With this virtual machine it doesn't matter whether you use Windows or Linux as the host. Simply download the VHD, import it into VirtualBox and development can begin immediately.

Windows Embedded Compact 7 offers bootloaders, kernels (e.g. with Silverlight, Mediaplayer or IE) and interface drivers for almost every offered interface are ready to use.
Hard work with platform builder can be dropped, we already did that for you.
Create your software with Visual Studio .NET in the languages C, C++, C# or VB.NET.
Use interfaces like I²C the same way like a RS232 interface without having to handle the underlying hardware.
Configure the display and other settings with the F&S configuration tool.
Windows Embedded Compact 2013
The highly flexible and hard real-time operating system has kernel, interface drivers and bootloader. It benefits from all the features of a modern CPU, such as ARMv7 THUMB2 command structure or NEON co-processor.
Complete images and the BSP are available in our download area.
Development is done with the latest Microsoft tools like Visual Studio 2015 (C, C++, C# or VB.NET) and Expression Blend 5.
Interfaces like I²C, CAN or SPI can be used in the same way like a RS232 interface.
XAML for Windows Embedded helps to separate visualisation and program the easy way.
Our FailSafe Flash File System F3S is also available in Compact 2013.

Easy Base BoardAlong with the attribute of an easy baseboard (EasyLayout), efus™ has a size of 47x62mm only and is therefore suitable for compact housings. The low power loss of only 2 Watt (typ.) makes it easy to cool the module. Innovative Applications Processorefus™A9X is based on a NXP single-core applications processor from the very successful i.MX 6 series and has a Cortex-A9, as well as a Cortex-M4 core. Cortex-M4 can be used for fast control and regulation functions or for processing fast interface protocols. Long-Term Availability to 20352D, 3D, NEON and FPU are available, ensuring software compatibility to other i.MX 6 applications processors. Another characteristic is the long-time availability to at least 2035. |
efus™A9X comes with up to 1GB DDR3L RAM and up to 1GB SLC NAND Flash. Up to 32GB eMMC are available additionally. Various InterfacesThe module offers interfaces like 2x Gigabit Ethernet, 4x Serial, USB2.0 Host/Device, 2x CAN, 2x I²C, 2x SPI, I2S Audio, 2x SDIO, PCIe, Camera (analog/digital), WLAN and BT, as well as high accuracy RTC (TXCO). The customized operating system (WEC 2013/ WEC7 or Linux) supports all interfaces, guaranteeing an easy software development without a deeper understanding of hardware. Audio Codec as well as touch controller are found on the base board. WLAN and BT with chip antenna or antenna socket can be offered as well. Of course, efus™A9X is pin compatible to efus™A9. |
