Buildroot and Yocto

The Linux BSP "fsimx6sx-B2024.01" is based on Buildroot, a software for creating root file systems. About 1400 different software packages can be added to the root file system using menu control. The range of functions ranges from simple libraries and utilities to a complete Java environment to complete graphical environments such as Qt or Wayland/Weston, including applications such as an HTML5-capable web browser. In this way, it is very easy to put together a customized Linux system.

As an alternative to Buildroot, there is also a Yocto-based environment. We offer the Linux BSP fsimx6sx-Y2024.12, which is based on Yocto.

Our standard configuration, which should give a first impression of the functional scope of the module, contains the following features: Busybox, gdb, alsa-utils, gstreamer, wayland-weston, feh, openssl, openssh, ncurses, can-utils, iproute2, ftpd, httpd, telnet, tftp, and much more

Both BSPs include the source code packages from U-Boot (2021.04), Linux kernel (based on 5.15) and Buildroot (2023.02.06) or Yocto (4.0) adapted by F&S. In addition, our cross toolchain is included, some sample applications and all binaries in the standard configuration. And last but not least, detailed documents on the hardware are included as well as the first steps documentation for easy entry.

F&S also offers a virtual machine (based on VirtualBox) with an installed Linux based on the Fedora 36 distribution for free download. All packages necessary to translate our software are already installed. All services (NFS, TFTP) for working with our boards are also installed. Our BSP is unpacked and precompiled in the right directories. With this virtual machine it doesn't matter whether you use Windows or Linux as the host. Simply download the VHD, import it into VirtualBox and development can begin immediately.

Easy, Functional.. ..Universal, Small

efus™A9X is another compact and inexpensive module in efus™ form factor. It is perfectly suited for applications with numerous interfaces in medicine and industry.

Easy Base Board

Along with the attribute of an easy baseboard (EasyLayout), efus™ has a size of 47x62mm only and is therefore suitable for compact housings. The low power loss of only 2 Watt (typ.) makes it easy to cool the module.

Innovative Applications Processor

efus™A9X is based on a NXP single-core applications processor from the very successful i.MX 6 series and has a Cortex-A9, as well as a Cortex-M4 core. Cortex-M4 can be used for fast control and regulation functions or for processing fast interface protocols.
SoloX is the second processor in NXP’s portfolio which supports Asymmetric Multiprocessing. Both cores (A9+M4) are connected to the internal bus fabric and have the possibility to access all peripherals.
In addition to Vybrid, SoloX comes with Resource Domain Controller which makes it easier to protect memory or other peripherals from each other.
Compared to other i.MX 6 application processors, SoloX offers much more bandwidth on the two GBit LAN interfaces.

Long-Term Availability to 2035

2D, 3D, NEON and FPU are available, ensuring software compatibility to other i.MX 6 applications processors. Another characteristic is the long-time availability to at least 2035. 

 

efus™A9X comes with up to 1GB DDR3L RAM and up to 1GB SLC NAND Flash. Up to 32GB eMMC are available additionally.

Various Interfaces

The module offers interfaces like 2x Gigabit Ethernet, 4x Serial, USB2.0 Host/Device, 2x CAN, 2x I²C, 2x SPI, I2S Audio, 2x SDIO, PCIe, Camera (analog/digital), WLAN and BT, as well as high accuracy RTC (TXCO).

LCD TFTs can be connected via 18Bit RGB (up to WXGA) or 24bit LVDS (up to WXGA). Touch is available externally via I²C.

The customized operating system (WEC 2013/ WEC7 or Linux) supports all interfaces, guaranteeing an easy software development without a deeper understanding of hardware.

Audio Codec as well as touch controller are found on the base board. WLAN and BT with chip antenna or antenna socket can be offered as well. Of course, efus™A9X is pin compatible to efus™A9.
