Description Performance

PicoCOMA5 extends the existing PicoCOM family with a pin compatible, powerful and also inexpensive module.

For Industry and Medicine

As all other PicoCOMs, the PicoCOMA5 has a size of only 40mm x 50mm. This makes it a perfect solution for hand-held products with TFT display in industrial (-20°C - +85°C is available) and medical devices.

High efficiancy with the Cortex-A5 & Cortex-M4 CPUs

The PicoCOMA5 runs on a high-performance NXP Dual-Core Vybrid CPU - Cortex™-A5 with 400 (500)MHz and Cortex™-M4 with 133 (167)MHz.

The module can offer a large number of interfaces: Ethernet, 3x Serial, USB 2.0 Host, USB 2.0 Device, I²C, SPI, CAN 2.0, I/ O, Audio (Line IN/ OUT), SD-Card and touch panel. Alternatively there is a PicoCOMA5 version with 2x Ethernet (no Audio).
The pin assignment of the 80 poles plug connector  can be found in our hardware documenation.

An important point in development was to offer many standardized interfaces, all supported by the available OS. Therefore the user can realize his communication jobs in software without in-depth knowledge of hardware.

Of course, PicoCOMA5 offers a flexible display interface to connect most of the TFTs from QVGA (320x240) up to SVGA (800x600).

Asymmetric Multiprocessing

The Dual-Core CPU (Asymmetric Multiprocessing) by NXP builds the ideal basis for PicoCOMA5. The industrial-suited and long-time available (10 years and more) Vybrid CPU owns two cores (Cortex™-A5 - 500MHz and Cortex™-M4 - 167MHz). It supplies the user with the processor performance of a 32Bit CPU as well as with the comfort and the functions of Windows or Linux, while it has a price which is usual for 8/ 16Bit μP systems.

PicoCOMA5 can be equipped with up to 512Mbyte DRAM and with up to 1GByte Flash, but 128Mbyte NAND Flash are already enough to boot a complete Windows or Linux directly from Flash.

Easy Upgrade

The system is supplied with 3.3V (< 3 Watt). It is plugged on the customer's carrier board with a robust 80 pin connector. Customers only need to add the necessary driver components for their requested interfaces. The usage of the module is therefore very easy. All PicoCOM boards are largely compatible, using the same robust 80 pin connector, which makes upgrades to successors a simple matter.
