Buildroot and Yocto

The Linux BSP "fsimx6-B2020.04" is based on Buildroot, a software for creating root file systems. About 1400 different software packages can be added to the root file system using menu control. The range of functions ranges from simple libraries and utilities to a complete Java environment to complete graphical environments such as Qt, Wayland/Weston or X11, including applications such as an HTML5-capable web browser. In this way, it is very easy to put together a customized Linux system.

As an alternative to Buildroot, there is also a Yocto-based environment. We offer the Linux BSP fsimx6-Y2020.03, which is based on Yocto.

Our standard configuration, which should give a first impression of the functional scope of the module, contains the following features: Busybox, gdb, alsa-utils, gstreamer, fbv, X11R7, matchbox, feh, openssl, openssh, ncurses, can-utils, iproute2, ftpd, httpd, telnet, tftp, and much more

Both BSPs include the source code packages from U-Boot (2018.03), Linux kernel (based on 4.9.88) and Buildroot (2019.05.01) or Yocto (2.4) adapted by F&S. In addition, our cross toolchain is included, some sample applications and all binaries in the standard configuration. And last but not least, detailed documents on the hardware are included as well as the first steps documentation for easy entry.

F&S also offers a virtual machine (based on VirtualBox) with an installed Linux based on the Fedora 27 distribution for free download. All packages necessary to translate our software are already installed. All services (NFS, TFTP) for working with our boards are also installed. Our BSP is unpacked and precompiled in the right directories. With this virtual machine it doesn't matter whether you use Windows or Linux as the host. Simply download the VHD, import it into VirtualBox and development can begin immediately.

Windows Embedded Compact 2013

The highly flexible and hard real-time operating system has kernel, interface drivers and bootloader. It benefits from all the features of a modern CPU, such as ARMv7 THUMB2 command structure or NEON co-processor.
Complete images and the BSP are available in our download area.
Development is done with the latest Microsoft tools like Visual Studio 2015 (C, C++, C# or VB.NET) and Expression Blend 5.
Interfaces like I²C, CAN or SPI can be used in the same way like a RS232 interface.
XAML for Windows Embedded helps to separate visualisation and program the easy way.

Our FailSafe Flash File System F3S is also available in Compact 2013.

Windows Embedded Compact 7

Windows Embedded Compact 7 offers Bootloader, interface drivers and kernel (with e.g. Silverlight, Mediaplayer or IE). Interface drivers for almost every offered interface are ready to use. Hard work with PlatformBuilder is unnecessary, since we already did that. Create your software with Visual Studio .NET in C, C++, C# or VB.NET. Use interfaces like I²C in the same way like a RS232 interface, without having to handle the underlying hardware. Configure the display and other settings with the F&S configuration tool. This is software development at its easiest.

The SBC... ...with convincing equipment

Applicable without Base Board

The advantage of Single Board Computers (SBC) is that they can be applied without a baseboard and are especially suited for quick "Time-To-Market". The armStone™A9/r3 runs on the NXP i.MX6 Quad-Core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU (NEON, FPU, 3D, MPEG4).

Long Term Availability

A highlight of this CPU is its long availability of more than 15 years (NXP Product Longevity Program).

Various Interfaces

The armStone™A9/r3 is equipped with up to 4GByte DDR3 SDRAM, some GByte Flash, and Gigabit Ethernet. Further interfaces are 4x USB 2.0 Host, USB 2.0 Device, CAN, I²C, SPI, Audio, SDIO, PCIe, and serial interfaces.

  

For display control, 2-channel LVDS (up to WUXGA -1920 x 1200), RGB (up to SVGA) and HDMI/ DVI (up to HD1080) are available simultaneously (with different content also).

For the connection of a touch panel (resistive and capacitive), the touch controller board with I²C is used.

A supply voltage of 5V (8-14V) causes a power consumption of about 3W, so the armStone™A9/r3 can be applied without a fan or cooling device; allowing an unprecedented combination of high-end computer graphics at simultaneously extremely low power loss.

Multimedia CPU

The i.MX 6 CPU is also available with Single- and Dual-Core in the same body. So further versions of the armStone™A9/r3 in different performance classes will be disposable soon. Especially for multimedia, additional hardware units are available in i.MX 6, relieves the CPU significantly and has a positive effect on the fluid display and low power consumption.
