Starterkit armStone™A9/r3 Linux
|
The armStone™A9/r3 in PicoITX format has standard connectors for 10/ 100/ 1000 Ethernet, 2x USB Host, USB Device, as well as Audio Line Out, DVI, SATA, and on the bottom side mPCIe. A power plug was assembled to supply the board with 5V. The two LVDS display channels are once on a 25pol socket and once both on a JILI30 connector (for dual channel LVDS). The alternative RGB display interface is on a 34-pole ESCDI interface. The resistive touch or capacitive touch controller (I²C) is connected via another 6-pole socket or the ESCDI display adapter. A USB Host interface is located on a 4-pole pin strip. Further interfaces are found on J1, and a 10-pole pin strip was already equipped for COM1.
The armStone™A9/r3 starter kit consists of the armStoneA9/r3-V1-LIN (with 1GB RAM, 128MB Flash, Audio, Ethernet, CAN, PCIe, SATA, and a resistive touch controller on the display adapter). Furthermore, we have equipped the RGB interface (34-pole ESCDI), as well as both LVDS interfaces.
One can connect an RGB display and two LVDS displays simultaneously. A bootloader and a Linux Image are already pre-installed.
The scope of delivery of the starter kit contains an additional cable set, a 7" WVGA TFT with a resistive touch panel, and the fitting display adapter with film cable. On a supplement, you can find the access data to documentation and software.
The starter kit also comes with a finned heat sink on the CPU, please note that these finned heat sinks are not contained in volume deliveries.
Additionally, we offer a 4-hour Workshop. The goal of the workshop is, to learn how to handle the armStone™A9/r3 starter kit and complete it with a running system. Under Linux, you learn how to deal with Buildroot and further Linux tools.

Buildroot and Yocto
The Linux BSP "fsimx6-B2020.04" is based on Buildroot, a software for creating root file systems. About 1400 different software packages can be added to the root file system using menu control. The range of functions ranges from simple libraries and utilities to a complete Java environment to complete graphical environments such as Qt, Wayland/Weston or X11, including applications such as an HTML5-capable web browser. In this way, it is very easy to put together a customized Linux system.
As an alternative to Buildroot, there is also a Yocto-based environment. We offer the Linux BSP fsimx6-Y2020.03, which is based on Yocto.
Our standard configuration, which should give a first impression of the functional scope of the module, contains the following features: Busybox, gdb, alsa-utils, gstreamer, fbv, X11R7, matchbox, feh, openssl, openssh, ncurses, can-utils, iproute2, ftpd, httpd, telnet, tftp, and much more
Both BSPs include the source code packages from U-Boot (2018.03), Linux kernel (based on 4.9.88) and Buildroot (2019.05.01) or Yocto (2.4) adapted by F&S. In addition, our cross toolchain is included, some sample applications and all binaries in the standard configuration. And last but not least, detailed documents on the hardware are included as well as the first steps documentation for easy entry.
F&S also offers a virtual machine (based on VirtualBox) with an installed Linux based on the Fedora 27 distribution for free download. All packages necessary to translate our software are already installed. All services (NFS, TFTP) for working with our boards are also installed. Our BSP is unpacked and precompiled in the right directories. With this virtual machine it doesn't matter whether you use Windows or Linux as the host. Simply download the VHD, import it into VirtualBox and development can begin immediately.
